Alternative music is no independent genre, but rather the generic or collective term that developed in terms of content from the underground music or independent music (also known as “Indie”) in the late ‘70s. Many alternative bands originated in the ‘80s, and became, in turn, part of the mainstream. The term Alternative music –or simply Alternative- was first used independently in the early ‘90s, in order to comprise music movements from Grunge and Crossover for marketing reasons.
