What is an accordion?
Accordions are a family of box-shaped bellows driven musical instruments. The device is operated by compressing or decompressing the bellows while the buttons or keys are pressed, which in turn open valves (so-called pallets). When a valve is open, air flows over vibrating strips of brass or steel, creating the sound that is amplified inside the accordion by a resonating body. The strips are called reeds. The accordion player plays the melody on buttons or keys on the right side. The accompaniment, consisting of bass and preset chord buttons, is pressed on the left side.
The accordion is used all over the world. In countries such as Brazil, Colombia or Mexico it is also used in pop music. Mostly, however, the instrument is used in folk music in Europe, North and South America. In addition, the accordion is also used in jazz music and in both solo and orchestral performances of classical music.
Below are pieces of music from the royalty-free music catalogue for Production Music of the Proud Music Library, in which the accordion is used as a melodic instrument in stock music. Accordion music is usually used in commercials and advertising films, where the characteristic sound of the instrument is intended to trigger certain associations with a product. Typical for this is Paris, tourism, cruise, fashion, lifestyle or passion and romance.
